Can you use dental flossers more than once?

Can string floss be rinsed and reused? The American Dental Association does not recommend using a floss strand more than once. It states: “Used floss might fray, lose its effectiveness, or may deposit bacteria in the mouth.

When you floss you are removing bacteria from between your teeth and below the gum-line. If you use the same section of floss for all of the teeth in your mouth, you are spreading around a lot of bacteria.
